Hello,

My name is Samuel Jay Smucker and I would like to be the next Champaign County Board member elected from District 8.  As a member of the County Board I will support environmentally friendly policies such as protecting the Mahomet Aquifer, using the most advanced sustainable building technologies, and expanding recycling throughout the county.

I believe in a county-run nursing home that raises the standard for elder care in our community.  I favor the opportunity for rehabilitation and growth for people under county supervision.  I believe in the humane care for animals under county protection and would like to expand adoption and spay/neuter programs in place of euthanasia.

I was born, raised, and educated in Illinois.  I attended high school in Edwardsville and earned a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology from Knox College in Galesburg.  I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where I earned an M.A. in Sociology.

For ten years I worked as union organizer for the United Electrical Workers (UE) and then a trainer for union organizers with AFL-CIO.

I live in West Urbana near Carle Park.  Currently I'm employed by the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Illinois as the Coordinator for Graduate Studies and Sponsored Research.

Please feel free to contact me and let me know your opinion.

I can be reached at sam@smuckerforcountyboard.com

Thanks,

Samuel Jay Smucker
